The Medieval  village of Barberino Val d’Elsa is situated along the ancient Via Cassia, a Roman street which connected Rome to Florence.

Walking through the ancient streets of the village, surrounded by a landscape of rare beauty, tourists can appreciate the Cathedral and the Priori Palace.

This place was a crossing point for pilgrims, coming from all over Europe and heading to Rome. Already before 1000 AD, Colle Val d’Elsa was an important transition point.

Also commercial and handcraft activities have an amazing history: in the village  there was first the production of fine paper, which have been replaced at the beginning of the XIX century by new glass industries.

Colle Val d’Elsa, due to the importance of glass productions, was called “ The Bohemia in Italy”. Nowadays the production is mainly focused on crystal.
